The Fanfest
Be sure and check out the UK Fanfest Summary
by Mr. Kevin Scott!
In the near future JWWC will be sitting with John Waite and his
management, to get a firm date so that the fanfest becomes a
reality. From there we will move on to the plans and outline of the FanFest.
From organizing events such as this in the music as well as other industries
(call them "conventions"), we have the following preliminary details for all
John Waite fans to think about. Please understand that these are based on
first and foremost, John's schedule. John continues to discuss his commitment
to the fanfest with JWWC, but due to the new tour that has been announced,
scheduling may have to remain flexible, and may be subject to change. Again,
keep in mind that we must work with John and around his schedule. These are JUST in
the "pre-idea/organizational" stages. So take these as starting points or
ideas that we have come up with or fans have suggested to us for inclusion
of such an event.
LOCATION:
Due to the recently announced
tour, John will be playing extensively in 1999. Should
the opportunity arrise in John's schedule for the fanfest event it may be more applicable
to place it in a city nearest his location based on the tour. Keep in mind, the fanfest must
be easy for John to attend. It is planned and
organized with the intention of John himself being there.
TIME:
The event would take place over several days. This is for several reasons.
One being that plane fares tend to be cheaper with 2 or more days included
in your ticket (ie. Leave on a Thursday, return Sunday night). Of course a
lot of you know that with rental cars it works the same. The first day of
the event for everyone, with the many different plane arrivals is used as an
"arrival day". You will get to where the fanfest will be and get organized
in your hotel room. A lunch or dinner will be scheduled for all to meet, or
perhaps several to accommodate the different times people will arrive.
Perhaps a buffet at the hotel.
AIRLINES & HOTEL ACCOMMODATIONS:
The more people that attend, obviously the better rate we can get on
airlines and hotel rooms, as well as shuttling people from airports to
hotels and visa versa. Should all work out, we believe that in order to take
care of the airline and a group rate one or two airlines will be the portals
for the Fanfest. This will allow us to approach the airline of choice and
get a "John Waite FanFest Rate" so to speak. These numbers start at approximately
100 people guaranteeing the airline to take advantage of this special rate.
The same applies for hotel rooms and venues. We will take care or the
organization of people rooming together and so on and so forth.
FANFEST AGENDA:
As stated above, the FanFest agenda will be given to you before you leave
from your home. This will include a structured guideline.
You will be provided with all the touring
info you need to get around the city in which the fanfest is held, as well as help in navigating
through the city. Returning later that day to the hotel room (around 4PM or
so) a dinner (which Mr. Waite would be invited to attend) would take place.
Perhaps a somewhat formal dinner and dance, just to name ideas.
Next up, the performance. Of course the desire from the fans would be to
have John perform. This depends on John's status with a band at the time and
their availability or perhaps he himself unplugged. A hall or venue will be
investigated to have John perform there and additional so-called "meet and
greet," Q&A etc. afterwards.
The fans who attend the event will be given several choices to do many
things that are available in the city where it takes place. There is plenty
to do in any city, and perhaps in the free time people have, not all want to
do the same thing. The event holds several option to do several things. Meet
other John Waite fans, see the city, see John play, meet with John etc. I'm
sure that we and you can come up with plenty of ideas as to what to do.
THE JOHN WAITE SURVIVAL KIT:
Our hope is that we will be able to provide you with some memories or your
trip. Perhaps something from John to take back with you... this will include
tickets to the events for that weekend as well as several other items that
your going to need to survive.
A special mail list will be made for this event that you can subscribe to,
when the time comes.
