In Person (continued)
John Waite in the European Record Stores
A music buyer that walks into a Dutch record store doesn't find much of John Waite. The reasons are obvious. He has had no hits over the last couple of years, so Waite seems a bit forgotten now.
All CD releases of The Babys album aren't for sale anymore and of his solo albums only 'No Brakes' is still available. On import 'Temple Bar' and 'When You Were Mine' are available. Also both Bad English albums are still for sale. But albums like 'Ignition' and Rover's Return' can't be found and 'Mask of Smiles' has been out of print for years now. Luckily, several collections are for sale which are easy to find.
By far the most interesting collection, especially for Babys fans, is 'Essential.' This album contains several unknown Babys songs. If you are looking for an overview of Waite's complete musical career, 'Falling backwards' will prove an excellent choice. This album has the best Babys songs, several Bad English hits and the best of Waite's solo work up to 'Temple Bar.' It lacks songs from 'Mask of Smiles.' Very cheap is the Dutch Disky compilation album 'Isn't It Time.' This picture disk gives an overview of the first three babys albums. Also still for sale is 'Anthology' with Babys material. Fans who want to collect the complete Babys and John Waite albums must partly settle for second-hand LPs for the time being. CD collectors can only hope that albums like 'Ignition' and especially 'Mask of Smiles' will be re-released soon.
