John Waite's return to the stage in California was a smashing success.
Backed by a tight 5 piece band including Shane Fontayne (Marc Cohn, Bruce
Springsteen) Ricky Byrd(Joan Jett, Roger Daltrey)on guitars and long time
Waite bassman,Donnie Nossov (Pat Benatar), they ripped through tune after tune
of JW classics.
From the count -off of the opener "Glittering Prize",the packed-house was into
it, singing along and shouting out requests between songs. John's voice was
in top form and seemed to get better as the evening went on. He looked happy
and youthful, definetly feeding off the crowds energy.
I'm pretty sure the following are all the songs he performed.
(Apparently, the people at my table confused the 2 drink minimum with a 20
drink minimum, so my memory might be a little off.)
The Glittering Prize
Change
Price of My Tears
When I See You Smile
Suicide Life
Downtown
How Did I get By Without You
Bluebird Cafe
Saturday Night
Act Of Love
When You Were Mine
Valentine
Lets Get Out Of Here
Missing You
Price of Love
Midnight Rendeveous
Head First
I-95
The crowd reaction was over -the -top when they did Head First as the encore.
It was a long exciting set ,proving John is a very underrated singer and song
writer, who's continued to advance his style through the years.
Hopefully ,John will continue to play this size venue (800-1500) . Don't miss
him if he plays a town near you
